Waring’s Weekend Activities Revealed

Following on from ECC Saturday Skiper’s poignant questioning of what, indeed, does ECCVC David Waring do? It can now be revealed that he does…the washing up!

The following photos, taken by our hidden photographer reveal that Mr Waring  likes nothing more on a Saturday evening than to dress up in ladies clothing, crack open a bottle of special brew and don the old rubber gloves to partake in a spot of washing up.

Mr Waring declined to comment on the allegations at the time of going to press.

Tilmanstone win the Six-a-side tournament

On a day threatening rain, 7 teams and 1 cup arrived at Updown expecting the gloomy morning to turn to rain. The sun broke through however and spirits were raised in anticipation of a good day. There was a brief moment of disappointment when holders The Griffins Head pulled out, but the club rallied round and cobbled together a team of “All Stars” with players including Messers Betts’, Hill’s and Swain’s better halves. Some of the highlights of the day included a cracking display of six hitting from Harry Kenton and Gareth Friend, one of the widest wide balls ever seen at Updown (beating Steve Harmisons Ashes opener by a fair margin), Totty’s Barbecue (as always), The Chairman’s “Matrix”, Jim and Dickie both hitting shots to the off side, Chopper Leechy’s big purple batting hat, Ump Cam and Will K’s one handed Waring-esque catch to name but a few. However, the Champagne Moment award went to James Piper’s dazzling display of footwork fielding, particularly one moment when he raced (?) round the outfield to get to the ball, chipped the ball up with his foot and into his hand and threw back to the keeper, all in one fluid motion. Well done Lightning! Unfortunately, the Roger Gilham “Clown Honk” and the “Pin the injury on the Mayland” stall alas did not appear on the day to entertain the crowds during the quieter moments.

Special mention and a big thank you goes to the Ladies of ECC who supplied the teams and spectators with an (un)healthy array of cakes and tea throughout the afternoon. And many thanks too to all contributors who helped make the day a triumph. Also, it seems only fair to mention the efforts of one Chris Adam-Reynolds, who spent a good couple of hours on the sit-on mower the day before, keen to make the ground look extra special. Guess who forgot to engage the mower blades though? See Chris’ face turn red!

Finally, well done the Tilmanstone VI who beat a very strong Young Ones A VI in a tight final that saw lots of runs scored (and no broken bones this time Jeff). Well done chaps and well done to everyone who took part.

See you all next year.

Aero in America

hi all!

just giving everyone an update!

i attended a Chicago Cubs baseball game monday night which was awesome!thoroughly enjoyed it!although my one criticism was that there was no random abuse or chanting towards the opposition or referees/umpires!and no post game muck abouts on the field!!but other than that it was unbelievable!the peanut/donut man, the beer man, the merchandise man!they all added their own litle bit to the already amazing atmosphere!below are the photos i was able to take with the dwfc shirt!!

Post Tour Note

Wel it was lovely to see the sun on crossing the border into Kent, after 3 days of rain in Sussex. Bright-on is definitely a misnomer and I may sue Tourism South East who left a copy of the attached in my hotel room. I plan to see Dr on Monday about trech-foot and rising damp in my knees. But we were undefeated at cricket on tour!

Stupid American Animals

Good morning to all you cricket fans!first of all i would like to wish you all luck for the coming fixtures and may there be many a ton scored!!my latest topic of converstion on my blog section is the amount of ‘roadkill’ there is on the side of their roads!just on my way home here for lunch today i saw 3 birds, a deer, a racoon(and may i add this is the first racoon i have ever seen!!) and 2 animals i couldnt identify!!these animals were all seen within 30 metres of each other!!surely they know that the big american cars with brights lights are not something you should be intrigued to find out what they are!!it seems that our english birds seem to have figured this out and need to pass it on t0 thier american counterparts and the rabbits, badgers etc back home in rainy england!(i hear you had quite the downpour the other day!!)anyway that is all for this lovely friday lunch time from me aero bubbles!wishing everyone an entertaining time in the field at updown!!remember AERObic exercises can be learnt from Harry Kenton if the need ever arises!hope you all have fun!peace out!

New option for Six a side

Howdi doodi, all is well here is the sunny US of A!33 degrees today and still rising!!!lovely!i have a proposal to make!first of all i’ll explain where my idea originated from!!this weekend there is a big basketball tournament going on in the town!3 a side basketball and it is going to be a huge event!they play in the roads and the citizens come out and support!!i was wondering if our six a side tournament could be moved to a couple of the roads in Eastry!this way we could promote cricket and maybe recruit some more players!!street cricket has always been popular with the Eastry Young Ones!!many a time have the members been seen playing on the road of wheelwrights way or in the drive at kenton manor. the most popular form of the game seems to have faded out tho!!years ago when the Young Ones were even younger morning bus rides to school were a hassle!getting up early and walking the 50 metres to the end of the road to catch a bus!!well that became a thing of the past when the lumleys and friends and anyone else who wanted to join in(matty d)created street cricket!whereby we used a tennis ball and a well crafted bat (thanks must go to garth for his woodwork skills) and while waiting for the bus we proceeded to play street cricket at the bottom of swaynes way!many memories and many legends were formed!!it is for these reasons that i propose the six a side tournament is moved to the streets of eastry!not just for marketing and recruitment purposes but for the love of the game!!!!!

ECC in the USA

Well, it’s not just Goldenballs moving the the US this summer, our very own Goldenhands, Aaron Friend, has moved over there for a couple of months and will be providing us with his own views on living in America, how he’s coping with the alcohol age limit of 21 and whether baseball really is rounders in disguise!
